Our project with the tropical fruit processing factory “FrutaSa” in Brazil is progressing. Civil reconstruction of the factory has been completed and the factory is now being refurbished with new fruit processing equipment. An extensive training programme with the indigenous fruit collectors has been established.
The project is financed by ICCO, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Dutch Government and attracts substantial attention from the international development community. Hence the results will be disseminated during the Rio+20 Sustainable Development Conference organized in Rio de Janeiro from 20-22 June, 2012.
In the province of Maranhão (in the north of Brazil) Agriplan, ICCO and IADB work together to reform FrutaSa, a factory involved in the collection and processing of exotic fruits. Factory reconstruction is currently in progress and furthermore the project foresees in the construction of 5 climate controlled collection centres in the jungle. Main aim of the project is to ensure the livelihood of the Indian communities. These communities are also co-owner of the factory.
